Medical Lab Technologist
Summary Description
Responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Performs all activities at assigned work stations and in accord with generally accepted laboratory procedures and ensures patient data is obtained and maintained in accordance with all applicable HIPAA regulations.
Essential Functions
- Performs laboratory procedures including specimen handling and processing, generating worksheets and test analyses
- Reports test results and maintains the following records: patient test results, instrument printouts, validation of analyses, "Call-ins," delta-checks, when performed
- Performs and maintains records of proficiency testing
- Performs quality control procedures per schedule and maintains records
- Performs preventative maintenance procedures per schedule and maintains records
- Participates in rotational assignments as directed
- Works in laboratory where position requires standing for extended periods of time and acute reading of testing instruments
Education/Experience
In order to perform high complexity testing, qualifications range from Doctors of Medicine, Osteopathy or Podiatry to an individual with a high school diploma or equivalent and specific, appropriate training/experience identified below. Any of the following will be considered:
- MD, DO, DPM with current license in State of laboratory's location
- PhD in Clinical Laboratory Science or another medically-similar science field
- MS in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science
- BS in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science
- AS in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
- MLT Certificate
