The start of 2022 saw Aculabs roll out several new features to our online web portal, including Email Reporting for Result Notification and improved logic used in our Exception Test Flagging feature. The purpose of such functionality is to continue expanding the ways Aculabs communicates with your staff while tackling patient care. Such features also allow us to provide detailed and integrated reporting to make patient diagnosis easier.

As a follow-up to the features launched at the top of the year, Aculabs introduces new alert options available to facility staff:

Critical Notifications Update

In an effort to improve communication between Aculabs and the facilities we service, Aculabs is redesigning our Critical Notification System/Methodology. The first step in this process is to incorporate email notifications to nursing administration.  By doing so, your administration team will receive notification of the residents whose results produced critical values.  Having this information can be used to focus attention and make sure that patient needs are addressed timely.

Next Steps – Email Designation

Upon your approval, Aculabs will need your facility’s DON’s email address. This will be put into our Laboratory System and the critical value parameters will be set. Once a critical value is realized, the computer system will send out an email. The email notification includes a unique access number specific to the patient with the critical value.  By logging into the Aculabs Web Portal, and referencing the unique number, the DON will know which patients require special consideration.

Facility directors who wish to make use of such features should reach out to their customer service representative with the email they wish to receive such notifications. Aculabs recommends, where possible, the creation of a master alerts email address, allowing your facility to have a single designated email that won’t change within our system, but for which your IT department may easily re-assign as needed.

As well, the web portal has been updated with new logic to alert nursing staff when attempting to create a new patient profile with a first name, last name, and date of birth that already exists within the system for your facility.
